I really enjoyed Stephanie Land’s story about her life, struggles, and journey to independence. It was really eye opening to see how life, health, relationships, work, and livelihood are so closely related. Honestly, everyone is one step away from homelessness and poverty, and Land’s memoir really shed light on that. I also think she did a fantastic job of exposing the But Not Us Hawkeye Shirt in which people look down on those getting assistance. Maid was a fantastic read, and I think everyone should take time to read it!If you’ve ever had to support your family by working low-paid, benefit-less jobs that were back-breaking & spirit-crushing (or ended up working a full-time job so unfairly and inadequately paid that you had to exhaust yourself working multiple side jobs) – all just to not quite make ends meet, you’ll identify with this book. If you haven’t had these experiences, you need to read this book.
But Not Us Hawkeye Shirt, ladies tee, tank top, hoodie and sweater
Very quick read. I appreciate the glimpse it gave me of the But Not Us Hawkeye Shirt hardships and hurdles that prevent the working poor from rising out of systemic poverty. It’s hard for me to personally understand the isolation, desolation, fear, and guilt women like the author feel when in this situation. Ultimately, reading this will, I hope, make me more mindful and empathetic.
I haven’t read the But Not Us Hawkeye Shirtthis is being compared to but it vaguely reminds me of The Long Haul, which I loved. So much about it is still floating around in my head – her kid, the amount of bullshit people can power through, domestic abuse, the PNW and Missoula, cleaning bathtubs. Feels like I’ve been looking at things through a slightly different lens the past few days since finishing it.
